Stewart Island Hunting Charters is a local Stewart Island and Bluff business proudly owned and operated by husband and wife team Chris and Kelly Black and their son, Tiaan. Our family has been deeply immersed in hunting and fishing around Stewart Island for over two decades, cultivating intimate knowledge of the land and sea.

Chris Black – Skipper

Chris has spent over 25 years in the blue cod and crayfish industry in the deep south and is a keen hunter who has hunted vast areas around Stewart Island. Additionally, his background in marine engineering makes him well-suited for his role.

Kelly & Tarryn Black – Administration & Booking

Tarryn and Kelly are invaluable assets to our business, leveraging Tarryn’s customer service experience at Air New Zealand to ensure a seamless booking experience for our customers. As members of an eighth-generation local Bluff fishing family and with close ties to the Rakiura Maori Land blocks as a landowner, they bring a rich heritage and deep local knowledge to our team.

Tiaan Black – Skipper/Second in Charge

Tiaan, our dedicated deckhand and second-in-command, has completed his building trade and separates his time between Stewart Island Hunting and his own building ventures. Tiaan is our go-to guy for assisting clients during loading, unloading, and en route to our destinations.

Our deep passion for the land and sea and years of experience allow us to offer a convenient Stewart Island delivery service for enthusiastic hunters and nature lovers throughout the south.

Te Kauri Ann

Te Kauri Ann is our 17.6m x 5.6m Conquest vessel for transporting people and their possessions to and from Bluff and Stewart Island. With ample storage space and capacity for up to 20 people, travellers aboard Te Kauri Ann can enjoy a comfortable journey. Additionally, we offer a hi-ab for transporting small boats.

Travellers can rest easy knowing that we supply everything required for transport from Bluff to Stewart Island, including all safety equipment. On-board refreshments are also available to enhance your experience!

Our Priority to Safety

Stewart Island Hunting Charters is about more than providing a convenient delivery service to and from Bluff and Stewart Island. We are passionate about providing a safe journey to remember for all the right reasons.

All passengers aboard Te Kauri Ann receive a safety briefing before departure. We also provide all safety equipment. Stewart Island Hunting Charters reserves the right to cancel any trip where extreme weather conditions present a risk to passenger or vessel safety.

Te Kauri Ann is a fully certified passenger vessel with Maritime NZ and is fully surveyed and audited to perform all aspects of passenger transportation.
